FAQ – about Frigg’s Everlasting Unions

  • How do we get a marriage license? Visit your local county clerk’s office website for their specific instructions, each one works a bit differently. Generally speaking, 30 days before your wedding date you will apply for the marriage license, in most cases you will need your birth certificate, social security card and drivers license. 
  • What kind of services do you do? We perform very simple to very elaborate wedding ceremonies and everything in between. We can meet to simply sign your marriage license or we can do a full wedding with all the guests and parties and then I also do a intimate wedding ceremony or elopement for the couple and up to 20 guests. 
  • What does your wedding ceremony sound like? with the packages we offer it can be as minimal or elaborate as you like, that’s the idea that we serve you and do what you wish on your wedding day, even if you don’t know what that is, we’ll help you figure stout. We always begin from a non religous voice and include warmth and love. We can personalize the ceremony to include your love story and reflect your personality. 
  • Where do you perform wedding ceremonies? We cover most of southwest Michigan including Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Charlotte, Bellevue, Springfield, Portage, South Haven, Grand Rapids, Hastings, Jackson and more. 
  • What makes it legal for you to performa a wedding ceremony? We are ordained via the Universal Life Church. Michigan law states those who are ordained may perform wedding ceremonies within the state of Michigan. 
  • Do you perform same sex or LGBTQ marriages? Yes we do, we strive to affirm all love LGBTQIA+ community is loved and welcomed here. ​
  • I don’t want a big wedding That’s why we exist. To serve any and all couples. From the simplest of weddings, we can meet at a coffee shop or restaurant and simply sign your license and exchange a simple I do to make it legal. 
  • Where can we do this wedding for free or inexpensively? We’ve got loads of ideas, just ask us 

MARRIAGE LICENSE HOW TO: 

Below is a list of links to the marriage application per county: We serve all counties but here’s a few of the most requested. 

The marriage laws in the State of Michigan are:

  1. Both applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application for the marriage license and must provide either a valid Driver’s License or State Identification with a current address, Birth Certificate, and a Social Security Number.  It is strongly recommended that both applicants apply in person.
  2. Michigan Residents must apply for the marriage license in the county where they reside.  The marriage license will be valid in any county in the State of Michigan. 

    Out of State Residents must apply in the county where the marriage ceremony is to be performed.  The marriage license will be valid only in the county where the marriage license was obtained. Please verify the location prior to the marriage ceremony or the marriage will be INVALID.
  3. The marriage license is valid for a total of 33 days, including a 3-day waiting period.  Notify the clerk at the time of application if you have a need to waive this 3-day waiting period.  There is a $15.00 fee for the 3-day waiver.  Please allow at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to process the marriage license.
  4. There is a $20.00 marriage license application fee for Michigan Residents.  There is a $30.00 fee for Out of State Residents.  The fee is payable at the time of application.
  5. The marriage license application can be completed at our office located in the Calhoun County Building, 315 West Green Street, Marshall. Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-Noon on Friday, excluding holidays.  We strongly recommend you arrive 1 hour before we close when applying for a marriage license.
